How to Build a Professional Weekly Outlook for XAUUSD

How to Build a Professional Weekly Outlook for XAUUSD

Stop Asking "Where is Gold Going?"

Every Sunday evening, trading forums and social media are filled with the same question: "What's your prediction for XAUUSD this week?" Traders are desperately seeking a definitive answer, a prediction they can follow. However, professional trading isn't about finding the right prediction; it's about building a flexible, robust plan.

Instead of asking others for their outlook, the goal is to develop the skill to create your own. Using the professional preparation framework shared by David Perk, we can outline the exact steps a trader should take to build a comprehensive weekly outlook for Gold. This isn't a prediction; it's a process for creating your own high-quality analysis.

Your XAUUSD Sunday Prep Checklist

Before the market opens on Monday, sit down and systematically work through these points. This will form the foundation of your weekly outlook for XAUUSD.

1. Establish the Higher-Timeframe (HTF) Narrative

Gold is heavily influenced by larger market trends. Your analysis must start here.

  • Monthly/Weekly Chart: Is the price in a clear uptrend, downtrend, or range? Are we reacting from a significant monthly supply or demand zone? This gives you the macro directional bias. Trading against this is swimming upstream.
  • Daily Chart: Look at the more immediate structure. Mark the key swing highs and lows. Is the daily structure aligned with the weekly, or is it showing signs of a potential pullback or reversal?

2. Mark Key Levels on the XAUUSD Chart

Price doesn't move randomly; it moves between key levels of interest. Your job is to map them in advance.

  • Previous Week's High and Low (PWH/PWL): These are arguably the most important levels for the coming week. They often act as magnets for price or as strong support/resistance.
  • Major Imbalances: Scan the daily and 4-hour charts for large, unmitigated Fair Value Gaps (FVGs) or Order Blocks (OBs). Price will often seek to fill these imbalances.
  • Liquidity Pools: Identify clean equal highs or equal lows on the daily/4H chart. These represent pools of stop-loss orders and are prime targets for the market.

3. Analyze the US Dollar Index (DXY)

Trading XAUUSD without looking at the DXY is like driving with one eye closed. Gold is priced in USD, giving them a strong inverse correlation.

  • DXY Structure: Perform the same HTF and key level analysis on the DXY chart. Is the Dollar bullish or bearish?
  • Confirm or Contradict: Does the DXY analysis support your XAUUSD bias? If you are bullish on Gold, you ideally want to see a bearish structure on the DXY. If your DXY analysis contradicts your Gold bias, it's a red flag. David's advice is clear: "Long EURUSD while DXY is bullish into a key level is not a bias — it is hope." The same applies to Gold.

4. Check the Economic Calendar

XAUUSD is extremely sensitive to US economic data.

  • Identify Red Folder News: Note the day and time of major US news releases like CPI (inflation), NFP (jobs), and FOMC (interest rates). These events will inject massive volatility into Gold.
  • Plan Your Risk: Decide now how you will handle these events. Will you avoid trading an hour before and after? Will you close any open positions? Having a plan prevents you from making panicked decisions in the heat of the moment.

By completing this checklist every Sunday, you create more than just an outlook. You create a dynamic trading plan with pre-defined levels of interest, a clear directional bias, and an awareness of major risks. This is a core skill taught in serious forex education programs because it shifts you from a passive follower to a proactive market analyst. A forex mentor can then help you refine this process until it becomes an unbreakable weekly habit.
